A staircase that lets light flow
The brief
A sculptural axis that links the levels without ever partitioning the eye.
At the heart of this house in Garches, a staircase becomes the centrepiece. Its cantilevered treads and fine-slat balustrade let light flow across the full height, linking the levels without ever partitioning the eye. Around this sculptural axis, the living spaces are organised in a pale palette with bespoke joinery in pale wood.
The studio's response

The staircase, centrepiece of the house
Set on an oak platform that anchors its foot, the staircase rises like a sculpture at the heart of the house. Its cantilevered treads and lacquered-metal balustrade let light flow across the full height, linking the levels without ever stopping the eye. More than a simple circulation, it becomes the gesture that holds the whole volume together.

Around the staircase, the spaces breathe
Around this sculptural axis, the living spaces are organised in a pale palette: bespoke joinery, open volumes, light that travels from one level to the next without obstacle.
